| RELAUNCHING MY KICKSTARTER PROJECT IN JUNE! Help me "Kickstart" my film! Two Men, Two Worlds: Beyond Black and White About this project When I was young, our family used to make annual trips to the small Mississippi town where my father was born. As an adult, my father told me several interesting stories about our family history and gave me a copy of a census record dating back to the 1850's. Included in his story was a statement that my great-grandfather had opened a school in his rural community and that my Dad, many of his family members and neighbors had attended the school named in my great-grandfather's honor. My father died in the 1980's and I later became curious about this story. About three years ago I discovered that one of the buildings associated with the school still existed and that this school was one of the Rosenwald Schools built in 1925. This film will explore the story of my great grandfather's role in working on the school and will explore how Julius Rosenwald (founder of Sears and Robuck) became a major supporter of black schools in the South. Go to Kickstarter to see the film trailer and project description. I hope you will support my project by pledging your support. | New to the website! Early Work by Carol White Here is a sampling of some of my early work. In the 1980's and 90's, I produced a large number of pastel drawings on paper that incorporated landscape images and a series of repeating symbols. These works were the catalyst for much of my current works on paper. My interest in intense color began in college and continues to be important in the pieces I produce today. Most of these drawings have permanent homes. They are included in the Marsh Corporate Headquarters, Citizen's Gas Company, as well as several private collections. However, there are still a few available for purchase. |
